Happy Easter 2009!

Another rainy Easter here in Portland. We ended up doing the egg hunt indoors as the Easter bunny was not in the mood to hide eggs outside in the rain! We started the day with an egg hunt inside and then the girls opened up the goodies in their baskets. Then we headed to church for Easter Sunday service. After church we had brunch and another egg hunt with our good friends. The kids came home with TONS of candy! It was a great day and a great way to end the weekend

We had a small pizza party at home with some of our friends to celebrate Peyton's 3rd birthday. I am still in shock that my baby is 3! She is becoming such a big girl. First the big girl bed last fall, and now totally potty-trained. Next year it off to preschool 2 days a week.

Today we were getting ready to head over to the neighbors house for an afternoon playdate. I was upstairs getting ready and this is the conversation I heard coming from the entry way downstairs.
Ainsley: Peyton no, don't go out the front door.
Peyton: Why?
Ainsley: Peyton, if you go outside by yourself, the bad people might get you. If they get you, you'll never see Mommy, daddy, me, Tucker and Kona.
Peyton: ok.
Thank goodness someone is listening to me when I talk to them!

I finally decided that is was time to take Peyton in to have her hair trimmed. After Ainsley decided to have all of her hair cut off, Peyton has been asking to get a haircut too. She did great, she held still, tilted her head down when the stylist asked. I couldn't believe this was my kid sitting in the pink Barbie Jeep getting her hair trimmed.

Ainsley wanted to make pizza dough from scratch, so with the help from her sister we gave it a shot. Needless to say, we didn't end up with pizza dough, but the kids had a great time measuring, mixing and kneading the dough.

We met up with some of my Pi Phi sisters for some tailgating before the CAL vs. OSU game. We were lucky enough to have an absolutely beautiful day. The kids had fun, and we enjoyed catching up and of course eating American Dream Pizza!

This year our friends joined us for some trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. Aren't they cute? I especially love the smiles that the younger two kids had!

Poor Petyon, dress her up in a giraffe, she calls it a zebra and now she has to sit here so mom can take a picture. I know what she is thinking, "would you hurry up and take the picture mom!" This was her first year of actual trick-or-treating and after a few houses, she started to catch on. She had a great time. When we were done, we came back to our house and let Ainsley and Emily hand out candy to other trick-or-treaters. I think they had more fun doing that than getting their own candy!

Welcome Baby Haley!!

Dustin and Alison welcomed their baby girl Haley on Saturday morning at 1:51 am. She weighed 6 lb 1 oz and was 19 inches long. Mom drove to Portland early Saturday morning - leaving Ashland at 4:45 in the morning! Then we all loaded up in the car and headed north to Seattle to visit our newest family member. Ainsley fell in love with her instantly, but Peyton on the other hand..... She has always been the apple of Uncle and Aunty's eye, so now her nose is a little out of joint with the new baby. I am happy to report that everyone is doing fine.

A Day at the Farm

Yesterday we had the opportunity to go out to Fitzgerald Farm on a beautiful fall day. We surprised Ainsley at breakfast and told her we were going to go to the farm and ride horses etc.... The kids were able to feed some calves, take a hay ride around the farm, play with dogs, a cat, ride horses and of course scoop some poop. It was a fantastic day spent with good friends. On the drive home, both kids fell asleep, what more could you ask for?

Since we really didn't have a summer (weather wise) we take every chance we can to go out on the boat and enjoy the sun. Yesterday it was 85 degrees, so we headed out around 11am. Of course the water is only 65, but it didn't stop Ainsley from jumping in!

I had to post a funny thing she did the other day. I was getting her ready for a nap, so she was getting situated in her bed with her blankets, babies etc... I started to sing my usual songs and she was playing with "big baby" as I was singing. Next thing I know she tells her baby " baby look at me (she turns her baby she they are eye to eye) no hitting." I couldn't help it, I just burst into laughter. Hmm who does that sound like???? I guess she really does hear Brad when he is talking to her.

Today Ainsley started her first day of Kindergarten! It was chaos this morning when I dropped her off. The parents were able to walk the kids downstairs to their classroom, but then it got chaotic and before I knew it she was in her class and I didn't even get to say "goodbye". The school secretaries were handing out tissues for the parents, so I grabbed one on my way out. It was hard, but exciting at the same time!

We returned to Lake Shasta for our annual houseboating trip with my friend Lisa and her family. We made a quick trip into Redding to hit Costco and In -n- Out Burger. Yummy! I told Brad that we'll have to make that a regular stop before we go to the lake. The weather was warm, ok HOT. We arrived on Wed and it was probably 102. Thurs ~ 105, Friday ~ 112, Sat ~ 102 and Sun when we left it was only 85. To say the least we were well cooked. The kids had a blast swimming in the lake and much to our surprise, Peyton took to the water like a fish. By the end of the trip she was swimming around in her lifejacket without much assistance from mom or dad. Ainsley suprised us too by jumping off the back of the houseboat, and diving from the swim deck of the ski boat. We had the privilage of seeing three bald eagles that had a nest near our cove. All in all, lots of sun, good food, good drinks, and great friends. We can't wait until next year!

Golf Camp at Red Tail Golf Course

This summer we gave Ainsley the choice of going to golf camp or soccer camp. She decided that she wanted to go to golf camp. A local golf course has week long summer golf camps for kids down the the age of 5. We arrived the first morning to learn that Ainsley was probably one of the youngest kids and only 1 of 4 girls in the entire camp that week. Needless to say, she was a little bit shy. She cried when I left the first morning, but when I came back to pick her up she was all smiles. On the second day of camp, she won camper of the day which made her week. At the end of the week all the kids received a medal and t-shirt for participating in the camp. Ainsley had a great time and asked if she could do it again next summer. Of course this made daddy very happy......

Slip 'n Slide day!

It's official, Peyton is no longer a baby. She is a full blown toddler. We converted her crib to a toddler bed in preparation for a "big girl" bed in September. We are passing along our crib to Dustin and Alison for their little girl due at the end of October, so we decided it was time to start the transition. So far she has been doing great with the new arrangement. She's only gotten out of bed a couple of times, which isn't bad compared to some kids we know. Along with the new sleeping arrangement, miss Peyton has decided that well, she doesn't need to take a nap everyday. Ughhh, now when am I going to clean the bathrooms???

Fun in Ashland

We had the pleasure of spending a week in Ashland with my mom and other family and friends. I took the girls to Daniel Meyer Pool (yes my old place of employement!), Garfield water park and of course Lithia Park. We also ventured to Medford and tried out "The Farm". It was a little overwhelming for the girls, especially Peyton. Ainsley had fun on the Pony rides and petting the smaller goats. I can't believe how fast summer is flying by. We are having a fantastic time!

A couple of weeks ago we took the boat out with our friends Troy, Sara, Ava and Finn. The water was COLD, so the kids couldn't swim. The adults wore full length wetsuits which made it bearable to ski and wakeboard. We found a stretch of river where were the only ones boating which was a special treat. Happy 4th of July!

This year we returned to Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint Idaho for our Treesh family vacation. We pulled our boat from Portland, Erik, Melissa and kids drove from Wyoming and Mike, Nancy and Ryan flew in from Houston. What a great week we had relaxing, swimming, fishing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and riding the inflatable tube. Every day the deer came to eat in our yard and they were so tame that they let us pet them. Well ok, not my family, but pretty much everyone else gave the deer some love. We ended the week with the 4th of July fireworks at the lake. Thanks to all of you for another memorable week!

We are on the brink of potty training for little miss Peyton. We've been putting her on the little potty every night before bath. She has gone three nights in a row now. I couldn't resist taking a picture of her on the potty with that funny bib.

This week was the last week of preschool for Ainsley. We kicked the week off by celebrating her birthday at school with donut holes and chocolate milk! Then we had the pleasure of going to urgent care because I thought she had strep throat (again!). We'll never know for sure because she clamped down so hard on the tongue depresser that she made teeth marks all over it. After two tries, lots of yelling and tears the doctor looked at me and said, let's just prescribe some antibiotics and hopefully it will take care of her sore throat.

If you haven't heard, the weather here has been miserable. So bad that Ainsely asked me yesterday if it was winter! Yes, 50 degrees and raining, doesn't feel like June to me!

We've also been busy preparing for Ainsley's birthday party tomorrow at The Little Gym. Yesterday we went out to grab some gift bags and as I was trying to hurry Ainsley out of the store she said "This is for my birthday and it is supposed to be fun, I'm not having fun." Hmmm where has she heard that line before? It made me laugh and realize that they are such sponges! She is totally milking the birthday thing and she is only 5!

Memorial Day Weekend

We spent the long weekend in Ashland with my mom. We were hoping for sunny weather so that we could take advantage of the nearby lake, but no such luck. The weather did clear up a bit on Saturday, so the kids were able to get outside and play. Brad has been teaching Peyton to say "Yeehaw" so she got lots of practice on her rocking horse, yelling "Yeehaw Daddy".

The other day while Brad and I were cleaning up the kitchen after dinner it got very quiet. Well we all know what that means, they are into something they shouldn't be. I went looking and found Peyton under the desk in the den with one of Ainsley's stamps. She looked and me and said "Uh oh mommy", like the blue stamp just jumped into her hands and onto her face. We got a good laugh, but it took a while for the blue color to fade from her tongue.

Today I did a happy dance when I dropped Peyton off at the nursery at church so that I could attend my MOPS meeting. She didn't cry, and when they reached out to take her she reached out to them! I do have to note that she had a pouty look on her face like she was about to cry, but she kept it together and didn't shed a tear! YAHOOO...this has been a long hard journey for both of us as we work on separation issues.

I don't need to say much more than that. Friday night while I was out, Brad and the girls had movie night and watched the Care Bears movie. I guess Peyton and Ainsley were so cute and both wanted to cuddle on the couch together. It's so nice to see that despite some of their altercations, they really do love each other.

A visit from Uncle Dustin and Aunty Alison

Dustin and Alison were in town this weekend for a bridal shower, so we had the opportunity to hang out with them and celebrate the announcement of their baby - due in the early part of November.
Last night they agreed to watch the kids because we had a 40th birthday party to go to for one of our neighbors. Let's put it this way, this morning when we got up Alison showed me some video on her camera from last night - it was Dustin shooting whip cream into each of the girls' mouth while everyone was just bubbling with laughter. I think everyone had a good time! Poor miss Ainsley even cried today after they left.
Thanks again Dus and Alison, we enjoyed our parents night out!

Old McDonald Had a Farm.......

Yesterday Ainsley had the opportunity to attend a birthday party of one of her classmates. The party was held at Hoffman Dairy Garden where her classmate Katie's aunt and uncle live. There were inflatable slides, a petting zoo, exotic animals, pony rides and a train ride. Ainsley saw a camel, lynx, milk snake, rabbits, sheep, boa constrictor and the usual farm animals. The kids had a blast! Ainsley said her favorite part was riding the pony named "Cassidy". I was almost jealous that Brad got to take her but I'm glad that they had some "daddy and Ainsley time".

This year we kept it low key. Grammy Kathy came up the weekend before Peyton's birthday so she could share in the celebration. Ainsley insisted on carrot cake, so we bought some mini carrot cakes from Trader Joe's. On Peyton's actual birthday 3-31-08, we had cupcakes with some friends from the neighborhood after lunch. For dinner we went to their favorite place - Red Robin. They sang happy birthday to Peyton and she got a ballon hat. I thought she was going to cry when the group of waiters came to sing to her, but she kept it together. We also learned that Peyton weighs 24 lb 3 oz, and she is 33 1/2 inches tall. Just to put it into perspective.....Ainsley was 24 lbs 1 oz and 29 3/4 inches when she was 1. Oh how different they both are!!

Happy Easter! The kids slept until 7:30 this morning (a very rare occasion at our house!) so mom and dad were very happy. The girls hunted for eggs at our house and then broke into their Easter baskets before Ainsley and I headed to church. We had brunch at our neighbors house and yet another egg hunt for the kids. Peyton started to get the idea of finding eggs, but was more interested in taking the eggs out of her basket and then putting them back in. She did however discover that there was chocolate inside and insisted that she have some!

Today was a beautiful day here in Portland. We headed out this morning for an egg hunt at the church that houses Ainsley's school. It was chilly, but we were so glad to see the sun! Brad had a quick strategy session with Ainsley before the hunt started so she knew what to do. Thankfully the eggs were on the playground, so no muddy feet!

On Wednesday night Brad's indoor soccer team had their final game of the indoor season. Fortunately for us the game was at 6:30, so we were able to take the kids to watch daddy "kick the ball". We were getting ready to go and I told Ainsley to go upstairs find her socks/shoes and go potty. A few minutes later she came downstairs all decked out in her soccer t-shirt, shorts, and socks. She even managed to put on her shin pads (of course they were outside of her socks). She was so proud to be dressed like daddy. Brad took her to the game and she was able to go out on the field and kick the ball before the teams began warming up. I'm sure this was the highlight of her week! Congrats to Brad and his team from Jive, they went undefeated this season.

Ok, so I just wanted to brag a little bit about Brad's older brother Ryan. He was recently awarded first place for the CM Caldwell Memorial award presented by the Texas State Historical Association on a paper that he wrote for school. He will have the option to publish his paper. Congratulations Ryan! We are very happy for you.

This year for my mom's birthday she flew up to Portland for a long weekend. Dustin and Alison were able to make it down from Seattle to join in the celebration. Aunty Alison and the girls were in charge of making the cake. It was fun to have the family together since Christmas was such a blur. Happy Birthday mom, we love you!

Funny Girl

So yesterday I thought I was being sneaky by eating my thin mint cookie in the kitchen where the girls couldn't see me. As I was finishing Peyton beckoned me over to the floor. I guess she got a whiff of the thin mint and took my hand, marched me over to the pantry and pointed to the girl scout cookies and said "I want some". I had to laugh and politely tell her no.

Today I got her all set up in our room with some toys and her sippie cup of water so that I could take a quick shower. She came into the bathroom and pointed to her mouth and said "water". I told her that her cup was in the basket in mommy's room. She quickly ran away, so I figued she found it. As soon as I got out of the shower, she came in again and said "water". I asked her to show me. She led me into her bathroom climbed up on her stool and showed me her cup of water and how she could fill it from the faucet. Puzzled as to where the cup came from, I went down to the kitchen to find their cup drawer open. During my brief shower, she had managed to get all the way downstairs, find a suitable cup, get back upstairs and get herself a drink of water from her bathroom faucet. She is really starting to figure things out!

Sunriver, Oregon

On President's Day weekend we were invited by the Reynolds family to go to their vacation home in Sunriver. When we arrived there was three feet of snow. The kids were thrilled. The first morning Ainsley, Chloe and Aiden were outside in the snow by 8:30 am. The girls built a snow tunnel (with some help from the dads), pulled each other around on the sleds and wore themselves out! Peyton took half of the morning just trying to decide whether or not she was going outside. I got her all dressed in her snow suit (aka the clown suit!) and just as we were heading outside she decided she didn't want to go. She preferred the view from the family room. All in all we had a great time. Thanks Steve and Linda for hosting a great weekend!!

An outing to the Park

The weather finally cooperated and we had a dry and somewhat warm day on Saturday. We took this rare opportunity in February to take the kids to the park. It felt so great to get outside and breathe fresh air. Peyton had fun on her little pink car, trying her best to keep up with Ainsley on her bike. Don't you love Peyton's pink Puma track suit (thanks Unlce Tom)?

Oh little miss Peyton. Today while Ainsley and I were looking up something on the computer, she decided that it would be a great idea to climb up onto the kitchen table and see if she could get sissy's Hersey Kiss that she had gotten from a birthday party. Ainsley and I came back into the kitchen to find her with chocolate on her face and a chewed up foil wrapper on the table. Ainsley came unglued because she was saving the kiss for daddy. I guess Brad can thank Peyton, because he really doesn't like the milk chocolate kisses anyway!

Sticky Fingers

Background to the story: Almost every morning Peyton has 1/2 of a bananna as part of her breakfast. Today while Ainsley and I were at a birthday party, Peyton came to Brad with sticky fingers. He asked her to show her what she was doing. She walked over to her Leap Frog learning table, opened the door a small compartment and pulled out the remains of today's bananna. Of course she wanted to eat it, but much to her dismay the sticky brown leftovers were headed for the garbage. According to Brad, this threw her into a major tantrum with screaming and rolling around on the floor.

Peyton has discovered that she can do a forward roll - all by herself. Last night she did three of them right in a row. The picture doesn't do her new found skills justice, but you try getting the camera to cooperate with a moving target like a 2 year old.

On Monday morning January 28th, we woke up to a little bit of snow on the ground. Not much in comparison to what my mom had in Ashland - 12 inches! Needless to say Ainsley had fun outside with our neighbor Jacob as Jacob's dad Chris pulled them down the sidewalk on the sled.

A visit from Grammy and Papa

Grammy Nancy and Papa Mike travled from Houston, TX for a week long visit that included golf, playing, eating out and shopping. Brad, his dad and older brother Erik traveled down to Bandon for their annual golf trip. Despite the rainy and windy weather, everyone had a good time golfing. Meanwhile in Portland the "girls" had fun cooking, going out for lunch and shopping.

A couple of weeks ago, the weather got very cold here. I decided to be nice and let the dogs sleep in the house instead of their usual spot in the garage. Tucker decided that he wanted to sleep on Ainsley's bed. For two consecutive nights they bunked together and loved every minute of it!

Yes, it's true. Peyton stayed in the nursery yesterday while I attended a MOPS meeting at church. Of course I could hear her screaming all the way down the hall, but the nursery workers were some tough cookies, and stuck it out for 1 1/2 hours! When I went to pick her up she was playing and having a good time. For any of you that don't know Peyton that well, she is a mamma's girl and doesn't like to let me out of her sight! Sometimes she doesn't even like Brad. This was huge, maybe someday we can hire a babysitter........

Christmas 2007

We traveled down to Ashland for the Christmas holiday and spent it with my mom, Dustin and Alison. Unfortunately I was really sick with the flu and missed most of the fun. Brad also came down with the flu on Saturday, but was feeling much better on Sunday. Thanks to the help from my mom, Dustin and Alison the girls had a great time. Aunty Alison helped the girls make a gingerbread house. Even Peyton joined in the fun and didn't eat too much of the candy and frosting. On Christmas eve Brad, Dustin and Alison took the kids (and dogs) up to the snow so they could run around. I think the dogs had the most fun on that outing. We enjoyed our time together and even watched some home videos from the mid 80's. I hope all of you had a great Christmas and cheers to a new year!

Bath Time

Bath time is always a good time at the Treesh house. It is usually the only time that we can get the girls in the same place at the same time. It is always a special treat to take a bath in mommy and daddy's tub, except when daddy turns on the jacuzzi jets!

This summer we had the pleasure of gathering for the Roth family reunion. My cousin Maria is a fantastic photographer and offered to take some pictures of the kids. Of course I couldn't pass her up! Our Beloved Dogs

Since the kids came along, the poor dogs have taken a backseat. Last night I was feeling kind and decided to let the dogs in the house for a while to let them feel like they were "part of the family". We put their Christmas scarfs on (much to their dismay) and took some pictures of them for the scrapbook.

The weather has been horrible here, so we took the easy way out and purchased a pre-cut tree yesterday during the 10 minute window without rain! Ainsley and I decorated it today, with the help of little sister. Notice that there aren't many ornaments near the bottom??? We'll save the nice ornaments for next year when miss Peyton understands that the round glass ornaments aren't balls for throwing!

If you haven't heard, Oregon State won the 2007 Civil War in Eugene. We had a great time celebrating with The Bates and Dan. The kids (ok Ainsley) had a blast getting dressed up in their Oregon State gear. We headed to Newberg to the home of Chris and Shannon Bates for the game. We enjoyed some yummy soup, compliments of Dan and some Pilgrim Pies. If you haven't had the pilgrim pies, let me know and I'll foward you the recipe. They are basically pumpkin bread with a cream cheese frosting filling. YUMMY!

Early Christmas Present

Ok. So we splurged and bought ourselves an early "family" christmas gift --- a Wii nintendo. I got on a waiting list at CompUsa and the systems came in yesterday. Yes, I never thought that I would buy a video game, but it is actually a lot of fun. The first game we played was bowling, and Ainsley beat both Brad and I! Tonight we put the kids to bed, poured a glass of wine and bowled, boxed and now Brad is upstairs playing golf (big surprise!!). I think boxing is my favorite, by the third round, I was starting to get a little warm. I guess we'll be preparing for a Wii party.....any takers?

Thanksgiving 2007

This year we traveled down to Ashland to spend the holiday weekend with family and friends. The Daniels hosted Thanksgiving dinner at their house. There were only 11 of us this year, which seemed small since last year there were 25 of us! Nancy set a beautiful table, which I forgot to take pictures of! Along with delicious food, the girls had a great time playing with Jennie's "My Little Pony" collection and decorating gingerbread cookies. I think Jennie and I combed the hair of 15 poines. Peyton slept through the entire meal again this year. The weekend flew by, but we had a great time.
